Shop Procedures

The Book of Knowledge. How the shop works, what you're allowed to touch, where everything lives, and how to get a part made. Written once, applies in all three courses.

The rule under all the other rules: get a verbal OK from Mr. Hubbard before operating any tool in the shop. If you aren't sure, stop and ask. Nobody has ever gotten in trouble for asking.

Section 1

Safety

The safety contract, the rules you agreed to, what happens when they're broken, and how materials and cleanup work.

Section 2

Where Things Are

A map of the room. Which cabinets you can open, where the tool wall and materials cart are, and where projects get stored.

Section 3

Machine Quizzes

The tools that need a safety video and quiz before you touch them. Watch, pass, then ask.

Section 4

Making Parts

3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, and the Onshape add-ons that make designing for them far easier.

Three levels of access

Every tool in this room sits at one of three levels. Knowing which is which is your responsibility.

Tool wall

On the tool wall and you've been shown it. Get a verbal OK and go.

Video + quiz

Not on the tool wall. Watch the video and pass the quiz before first use.

Caution tape

Marked with black and yellow stripes. Only with Mr. Hubbard watching you.
