RE     New toy for the Print Shop line

The ask

We're launching a line of toys that never sit in a warehouse. Each toy is a set of print files. A store prints it on demand, the customer snaps it together at the counter, and walks out playing with it.

You're on the engineering team. Design a new toy for the line, model it, print it, and prove it works. You pick the toy. A car, a buggy, or a creative vehicle is a safe bet. It doesn't have to roll, but it has to move — a toy that just sits there doesn't sell.

What we're buying

It Moves Rolls, turns, bends, or swings

Every moving part works smoothly, every time, in a customer's hands.

Prints and Snaps No tape, no glue, no sanding

Parts come off the printer and go together. Precision fits, designed in CAD.

Requirements

The assembled toy must fit inside a 6 × 4 × 4 in box — that's our standard shelf package. Printed material may not exceed 100 g of PLA and TPU combined; filament is the cost of every unit we sell. Parts are 3D printed in PLA and TPU only, because that's what every store printer runs. Standard hardware — screws, bearings, metal axles — is fine where it makes the toy simpler.

Nothing may be taped together or "handmade" to work. Design for fit and clearance; a part that has to be sanded until it fits can't be sold. Keep parts modular: when a customer breaks one piece, the store reprints that piece, not the whole toy. No sharp edges or pinch points.

CAD standards

All parts and the assembly are modeled in Onshape, fully constrained and dimensioned. One shared Onshape document per team, shared with every team member and with your instructor, and added to the Onshape Classroom assignment. The CAD must match the prototype you hand us.

Deliver to us

  1. A working prototype toy
  2. A design notebook — concepts, sketches, decisions, CAD screenshots, tests, and iteration notes
  3. The complete Onshape model, parts and assembly
  4. A 5–7 minute presentation to our product team on

Design rules for 3D printing, clearances, joints, and how you'll be scored are all on the project page.
